What should I be practicing during the week?
In addition to working on your band assignments listed below each week, be sure to spend time on fundamentals (warm-ups), technique (scales), and repertoire (concert music). Continue to spend 100 minutes per week practicing your instrument (20 minutes a day, 5 days a week). Use the categories below to help guide your time practicing. How to best setup for Remote Learning in Band
Setting up your digital space is very critical in preparing for remote learning in Band. We want to ensure that everything we are playing on our instrument is accurately being representing in what we submit. Please see the suggestion below to hep you properly set up your space you will use to record your instrument.
1. Try to find a quiet place to set up to ensure the microphone is only picking up the sound from your instrument
2. Use the best quality microphone you have. Most computers have built in microphones which will work, but if you have an external microphone that will probably provide better quality of sound. Apple products also tend to have decent microphones build in. Use the best option you have available.
3. Be sure to play using headphones especially if playing along with a track or smart music (wired headphones seem to work better). This will ensure that the microphone is only picking up the sound coming from your instrument.
4. Setup to play with at least a 3 to 6 feet distance between your instrument and microphone. Aim your instrument at an angle (not directly at the microphone). See the video example below.
